Forgotten Words... Words that Are Not Really Words...

And what the hell were they talking about anyway?

Pistyles

Pistyles are people that like to refer to their rooms as being organized messes. They ( or we) can just find everything better that way. Even though there are clothes everywhere, I still know that my blue cardigan is at the bottom of the pile near my dresser and my pink hair elastic is in the second drawer down. Pistyles aren't necessarily slobs, either. They can be the most organized person in almost every aspect- the bedroom is the common weak spot.

Parkinson’s Law

This is an actual term that I do not commonly hear, though it is frequently observed. The basic idea is that “work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.”
It is frustrating and disturbing, but rarely avoided through the indestructible will of nature that cannot be defied.

Blivo

Blivo can only be described in one way. It is almost like a burn yet it hurts a lot more than a burn. It usually happens when you are using a glue gun and think that it is necessary to glue yourself instead of glueing the article that you originally intended on glueing. A quite unfortunate event that takes place regualarily to those that are interested in arts and crafts. It is often quite painful and makes you quite sticky and once you stick to something there is no hope that you would be able to become unstuck. Truly quite unfortunate. Truly, truly unfortuante.

Patsy Konopka

To pull a Patsy Konopka is to write a significantly sized essay or story, etc., from beginning to end without reading through it once. Reasons for pulling a Patsy Konopka vary from lack of time due to procrastination, apathy, or a complete burst of creativity that loses momentum when you attempt at reflection. Others claim it is the most effective way to write anything, as it is the only way to keep that spark of freshness in your style. Outcomes vary from dizzying failures to dramatic successes, and may depend on your reason for writing like this in the first place.

To use the phrase within context one might say, “I’m running out of time, really, I think I’ll just pull a Patsy Konopka on it Tuesday night.” Perhaps, “He was really off on a tangent that time. I’ll bet he was Konopkaing all the way through it.” And even, “Yes, I really P.K.ed that last report. I don’t even care anymore.”

It is named after the successful character writer Patsy Konopka from Garrison Keillor’s novel, WLT, who frequently had live shows aired on scripts she wrote and hadn’t read once. I salute you!
