A Flaming Goose
A completely unexpected factor that completely destroys any plan, scheme, or arrangement you may have had before.
Example: A farmer finally finishes harvesting and baling his hay. Suddenly, a goose flies between two power lines, bursts into flame, and lands directly on top of the hay.
In a situation that is the emotional equivalent of a random goose catching fire and burning up all your hay, one would only look on and say, "Well, that was a flaming goose!"

That's a genuine expression, although I think it's generally directed at an individual as in "What sort of a flaming goose would post such a spurious definition?"
[unless that actually happened of course].

Here's irony for you. We have a friend who caught himself on fire in a cooking accident some years ago, affording us the distance of time to now laugh at the matter. This friend of ours goes by the nickname of Goose (a derivative of his last name). Naturally the jokes turned towards calling him "flaming goose" and I became certain that there must be a bar by that name or something. If you knew the calamitous naure of our friend you would appreciate the hillarity of this discovery.
